Now LinkedIn is stealing data from my phone?

On June 6 it was revealed that the LinkedIn apps for iOS and Android are transmitting information from the user’s calendar back to LinkedIn. LinkedIn claims that this is a service for users to find information about for people they have meetings with. They also claim the data is not stored or used in any other way.

Although the feature may be useful it not clear that this is what is happening which is causing concern. LinkedIn has already released updated versions of the app.

My Take: How can mature companies not know that this kind of thing will be discovered? Especially with so many recent examples. (Anyone remember Path?) Wagering a user’s trust to gather data is always a losing bet. Trust is hard to earn, and much harder to win back.
